The Red Arrows is arguably the best known aerobatic team in the world and in 2014 the team's Hawk aircraft have a new tail fin design celebrating their 50th Display Season. This scale model fully replicates the graceful lines and the red, white and blue color scheme of the real Red Arrows Hawk. The dual control BAe Systems Hawk T1 is the RAF's advanced trainer, and has been used by the Red Arrows since 1979, replacing the Folland Gnat. The Hawk's Rolls Royce Adour engine produces 5,200lbs of thrust and can power the aircraft to a top speed of Mach 1.2. The aircraft has a maximum altitude of 48,000ft and fuel capacity gives a range of 1,000nm, making most of the world accessible apart from New Zealand. The smoke generation system pumps diesel mixed with appropriately colored dye into the jet exhaust to produce the colorful Vapour trails that enhance both visual effect and flight safety. This allows five minutes of white smoke, one of red and one of blue. Paint Scheme - British Aerospace Hawk T.Mk.1, The Red Arrows Aerobatic Team, Royal Air Force Scampton, Lincolnshire, UK, 2014. Arguably the ultimate version of the Spitfire, the unarmed Rolls-Royce Griffon powered PR.XIX reconnaissance aircraft relied on speed and stealth to survive in the combat area. This version of the Spitfire still holds the world altitude record for a single piston engine aircraft, set at 51,500 ft. in February 1952 by Flight Lieutenant Ted Powles. First entering service with the RAF in 1944, the Spitfire PR XIX was a superb reconnaissance platform and continued in service long after the end of the Second World War. Powered by the mighty Rolls Royce Griffon engine, these ultimate Spitfires travelled at speeds over 100mph faster than the first Squadron machines and could attain far greater altitudes. In February 1952, Flight Lieutenant Ted Powles flew Spitfire PS852 to an incredible altitude of 51,500ft during a reconnaissance flight over the Chinese Island of Hainan. Flying with RAF No.81 Squadron out of Kai Tak airfield in Hong Kong, Powles set an altitude record for the Spitfire and for single engine piston fighters which still stands to this day, acting as an enduring legacy of these magnificent machines. The scheme worn by Ted Powles Spitfire on his record breaking flight has recently been applied to one of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Spitfire PR XIXs (PS915), followi...

Providing advanced pilot and weapons delivery training for a new, or converting student pilot is perhaps one of the most important duties undertaken by any of the world's air forces. For Royal Air Force students, this means many hours spent in the cockpit of the British Aerospace Hawk advanced jet trainer, which has now been in service for forty years. Replacing the diminutive Folland Gnat trainer, the Hawk proved to be a highly adaptable and extremely reliable aircraft in service, with large numbers serving with the RAF and many overseas air forces. Perhaps the Hawk is most famous for its association with the world famous Royal Air Force Aerobatic Display Team, the Red Arrows, who enjoy a reputation for excellence the world over.

The Hawk T Mk 1 was developed by Hawker Siddeley, today part of BAE Systems, to equip the Royal Air Force training units in the second half of the 1970’s. Since 1980, thanks to its performing qualities enhanced by the Rolls Royce Adour engine and its incredible manoeuvrability, the Hawk is used by the R.A.F. “Red Arrows” aerobatic team. The airplane is the same as the one used by the Royal Air Force for training, with further improved mechanics to provide even quicker command response times. Furthermore smoke generators have been inserted which are used during exhibitions, allowing for 5 minutes of white smoke, 1 minute of red smoke and 1 minute of blue smoke. From the time of their creation in 1965, the “Red Arrows” have participated at more than 4,000 manifestations in over 52 countries, becoming one of the most famous aerobatic teams in the world.
